FACE

 The Artists:

PARIS - electronics
JUSTIN BENETT - electronics

The brainchild of Paris Sedonis, local star and member of Christian Death and Shadow Project, among many other top name projects. This new project combines the cold, dark sound of later period Joy Division with the textural sonorities of "2nd Annual Report"-era Throbbing Gristle. A fine debut..

Face - the duo of Paris and Justin Benett - use electronic media to create contemporary ambient music which owes a debt to forerunners such as Brian Eno and Jon Hassell, not to mention synth groups such as Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk. Like Eno and Hassell, Face is concerned with creating virtual sonic landscapes that are evocative and nearly palpable. When it suits them, Paris and Benett can use lush, opulent and seductive sounds; at other times they decide a distorted, nearly industrial edge is appropriate, or the judicious use of pre-programmed percussion might fit the bill. In all cases, the music is distinctive, alluring, even spontaneous, never canned or affected. (Tone Casualties) Dean Suzuki

A brilliant offering by a band spawned by one of the past members of Christian Death, Paris. This CD is fascinating: crisp, organic, ethereal, and disturbing as well. I highly recommend it to any fan of ambient/industrial sounds. I also found it to be an interesting alternate soundtrack to the "Rocky Horror Picture Show." Seriously, you should try it! Even without Tim Curry in fishnets and heels, this CD is a beauty to behold. - Kirin

DMZ issue #3

The first time that I heard this CD, I didn't care for it to be honest. But after a few spins it started to grow on me. The sounds are very synthetic and it's what I'd describe as a very subdued version of angry and disturbing music. Completely instrumental, Face consists of Paris and Justin Benett, two very intriguing and creative minds. They create experimental music that's dark and gloomy to say the least. And although I have to say that this kind of music may be an acquired taste (kind of like beer and blue cheese on pizza) Face's soundscapes are unique and unlike anything I've heard before. Carrying an extremely mellow feel to it, the structure is very simple but well thought out. The music truly stirs emotion, and unfortunately, I really can't say the same for much of the music I've been hearing lately. Face probably won't be playing at any of your local clubs any time soon, but it will be playing at my house quite frequently. J. Walker
