ALIEN FARM

TALL REVENANT

This ambient duo has been compared to Nurse With Wound and Organum. Two cuts off their first self-produced release, "Now Fix Me," sat atop the Russian radio top ten for two months, aside more well-known acts like New Order, Peter Gabriel and Cabaret Voltaire. Their first release on Tone Casualties, titled Tall Revenant, unfolds with deeply textured guitars, augmented by subtle samples and undulating percussion. These songs seem to breathe on their own, powered by musical organic machinery.

The Artists:

Scott Noegel: guitars
Dan Hintz: sampling

Biography

Reviews: "

"Probably my favorite thing to come out of the Tone Casualties label so far. Alien Farm's "Tall Revenant" reminds me work by Gravitar, 71-75 era Pink Floyd and a host of lesser known entities that employ of guitars, drums, voices and a general sort of mushroom driven, psycho-jam work ethic. I find very original sounding pieces on Tall Revenant. "Assumed Risk", the opener, doesn't go on long enough. Then "Between Screen" is relaxed horror with spooky loops and acidic blues guitars competing for separate channels. Nothing fancy here, just sound like the guys have got a four-track, some reverb/delay equipment and an old barn to play in, but they do a great job with it all. The saving grace for all the madness on this record is the production, pieces end where they should, loops aren't used to the point of annoyance, clumsier artists would definitely fuck up in that way...I've got a drawer full of demo cassettes to prove it."

...a striking emotional symphony of guitars, samples and percussion."
BUZZ

"...this music has a strong pull to it. I kept trancing out like a frog hopping from one gently floating psychedelic lily pad to another."

"Alien Farm's first album, Now Fix Me, is one of the most powerful and chilling albums you'll ever hear. Drenched in dark, gothic shades of burnt umber and burgundy, the oft augmented duo of guitarist Scott Noegel and sampler Dan Hintz folded atmospheric (and often haunting) patches of human speech and odd sound effects over echoed guitar textures, emerging with a collection of utterly brilliant instrumentals. Now, far too many years late, Alien Farm's inventive twosome re-emerges with another astounding collection of frightening and beautiful sound sculptures. Part new album and part retrospective, Tall Revenant mixes new compositions with Now Fix Me tracks and pre-Fix recordings, though their basic style is so ingrained that the disc holds together like an intricate tapestry. The textured and airy guitars and buried speech of the Fix-era tune "Between Screen" leads perfectly into the low human moans and gentle guitar of "Cliptriptic," as both recall Pink Floyd's less concrete Ummagumma tracks. Elsewhere on the album, the duo's musical paintings cross the dark moods of Tangerine Dream with the sounds and colorings of instrumental Nine Inch Nails. But the end result - here as on Now Fix Me - is uniquely Alien Farm; sound sculptures of the highest order, master of the sound as paintbrush, creators of extraordinary emotional and beautiful music."

"Alien Farm Tall Revenant CD is a southwestern flavor ala Butthole Surfers' early and darker works is heard on this project, but said influence is far from the only one. The samplings are spooky, and the terse rhythms and calm melodies make for a wonderfully confusing effect. The production accommodates nicely the general weirdness of this recording."
ANGRY THOREAUAN

"I'm hiding under my bed, and I refuse to come out until someone removes this Alien Farm disc from my stereo. My ears are filled with the sound of droning guitars, guttural screams and moans, and aggressive percussion. There's no rhyme or reason to this - it's as if your local death metal band went ambient and this is their basement jam session. We will leave Tall Revenant to the black nail-polished, corn-starched scenester-creatures in bondage jewelry and crimson velvet. For them , I suspect, it's right on the money"
